Built to Weather the Storm

Each project here tells a story – one where we've worked alongside folks who wanted more than just pretty walls. They needed homes and buildings that'd actually stand up to what Mother Nature throws at 'em. From Vancouver's relentless rain to the coast's howling winds, we've gotten pretty good at designing spaces that don't just survive, they thrive.

Seaside Refuge Residence

Seaside Refuge

West Vancouver, BC

Storm Rating: 9/10 LEED Platinum

This one's special – built for a family who'd lost their previous home to a nasty winter storm back in 2018. We used reinforced concrete with advanced water channeling, plus installed geothermal heating that cut their energy bills by 65%. The curved roofline isn't just for looks, it actually deflects wind loads like you wouldn't believe.

Tidewater Business Center

Tidewater Business Center

North Vancouver, BC

Storm Rating: 10/10 Net-Zero Energy

Four stories of pure engineering challenge. The ground floor can handle 2 meters of flood water without compromising structural integrity – yeah, we tested it. Solar panels on the roof generate more power than the building uses on most days.

Lighthouse Point Estate

Lighthouse Point Estate

Bowen Island, BC

Storm Rating: 8/10 Passive House Certified

Perched right on the edge of a cliff, this place gets hammered by Pacific winds. We anchored it deep into bedrock and used triple-glazed windows rated for hurricane-force gusts. The owners joke that it's quieter inside during a storm than most city apartments on a calm day.

Maritime Heritage Hall

Maritime Heritage Hall

Victoria, BC

Storm Rating: 7/10 Heritage Restoration

Dating back to 1892, this old warehouse was falling apart. We kept the original brick facade and timber frames but added modern flood barriers and improved the foundation. It's now a community center that'll outlast all of us.

Harborside Mixed-Use Complex

Harborside Mixed-Use

Richmond, BC

Storm Rating: 9/10 Green Roof System

Retail on the first floor, offices above, and residential units on top. The trick was making sure a storm surge wouldn't wreck the shops. We elevated everything by 1.5m and created a water management system that's basically invisible but handles massive rainfall without breaking a sweat.

Windward Cottage

Windward Cottage

Sunshine Coast, BC

Storm Rating: 8/10 Off-Grid Capable

Small but mighty. Only 950 sq ft but built like a tank. The couple who lives here rode out last winter's bomb cyclone without losing power thanks to the battery backup system we integrated. They said they barely noticed the storm.

Coastal Commons Masterplan

Coastal Commons

Surrey, BC

Storm Rating: 9/10 Community Planning

A full neighborhood design for 200 homes. We integrated natural wetlands as part of the stormwater system – they're not just pretty, they prevent flooding downstream. Added elevated walkways and designed streets that can handle serious rain without turning into rivers.

Forest Edge Retreat

Forest Edge Retreat

Squamish, BC

Storm Rating: 7/10 Forest Stewardship

Built among old-growth trees without cutting a single one down. We worked around the roots and designed the structure to sway slightly with wind – sounds scary but it's actually way safer than rigid buildings in high winds.

Saltwater Bistro

Saltwater Bistro

White Rock, BC

Storm Rating: 10/10 Flood-Proof Design

Restaurant right on the beach – seemed crazy but the owners were determined. We basically built it on stilts with breakaway panels on the lower level. During king tides, water flows through without damaging anything important. Kitchen and dining are all elevated and safe.

Keeper's Quarters Restoration

Keeper's Quarters

Gabriola Island, BC

Storm Rating: 8/10 Historical Preservation

This 1920s lighthouse keeper's house was basically held together by paint. We stripped it down to the studs, reinforced everything, and rebuilt it to look identical but with modern storm resistance. The historical society gave us an award for this one.

Mountainside Haven

Mountainside Haven

Whistler, BC

Storm Rating: 9/10 Snow Load Optimized

Not coastal but definitely storm-tested. This place deals with massive snow loads and brutal winds coming off the mountains. The roof angles were calculated down to the degree to shed snow naturally while standing up to 150+ km/h gusts.

Seawall Commons Park

Seawall Commons

Vancouver, BC

Storm Rating: 10/10 Public Infrastructure

Reimagined a crumbling seawall into a resilient public space. Added tidal pools that double as overflow basins during storms, native plantings that stabilize the shore, and pathways designed to drain instantly. It's become the most popular spot in the neighborhood.

Got a Project in Mind?

Whether you're dealing with a tricky coastal lot or want to retrofit an existing building for better storm resistance, let's grab a coffee and talk about it. We've probably dealt with something similar before.
